OUR MUSIC

The popularity of Tarantara is in no small way due to the great variation of music the choir performs and their reportoire spans songs from musicals to the classics, from old to new, from serious to not-so-serious!  Below is a small selection from our recent and current repertoire:-

  • 'Something Inside so Strong' by Labi Siffre in a very stirring arrangement.
  • 'City of Stars' from the award-winning film 'La La Land', arranged by Jay Althouse.
  • 'Hallelujah' by Leonard Cohen, arranged by Roger Emerson.
  • 'Cantique de Jean Racine'  Gabriel Faure, a chance for accompanist Chris Long to shine.
  • 'Flight Song' by Kim Andre Arnesen, a firm choir favourite.
  • 'Dirait-on'  a challenging piece for the choir, but we do love a challenge!
  • 'What a Wonderful World', made famous by Louis Armstrong, arranged by Mark Hayes.
  • 'The Wayfaring Stranger, a traditional American Folk Song arranged by Greg Gilpin
  • 'The Seal Lullaby' by Eric Whicacre, a beautiful and evocative song of the sea.
  • 'Let the River Run' by Carly Simon, arranged by Jay Althouse and Gary Griffiths.  A real foot tapper!
  • 'I Got Rhythm' by George and Ira Gershwin, arranged by Mark Hayes.  A much-loved jazz standard from the 1930s.
  • 'World in Union'.  You'll recognise the music as it's from Gustav Holst's 'The Planets' but this arrangement by Charles Skarbek (and arranged for Tarantara by Gary Griffiths) has been used as the theme song for the Rugby World Cup competitions since 1991.
  • 'The Ground'  from Sunrise Mass by Ola Gjeilo.  With gorgeous harmonies, the choir love singing this piece.
  • 'The Skye Boat Song' a  traditional Scottish folk song in a lovely new arrangement by Jay Althouse.

Tarantara perform the complete concert - as well as their stirring full-choral pieces there are soloists, duets, sextets, barber shop, comedy, etc. all from the ranks of the choir.

This most versatile choir will get any audience foot tapping, smiling - even shedding the odd tear - with their style and delivery of a range of music to suit all tastes.
